The “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin” TV show aired by state broadcaster Rossiya-1 on December 12 showed new footage of the virtual meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden.

The video included the technical setup of the cameras, talks of the protocol officers, and the start of the talks.

According to the Kremlin spokesperson, the presidents discussed the situation in Ukraine and the redeployment of Russian troops. Putin stressed that Russia is not an aggressor and does not threaten other states.

SOT, Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson (Russian): “Positive, in terms of the tone of communication, since the presidents respect each other and each other’s diplomatic and political experience. Nevertheless, the topics discussed were very difficult, and most importantly, they were mostly about differences of opinion.”

SOT, Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson (Russian): “Always domestic events are far more important than international ones, than talking to Biden. Without diminishing the importance of the last one.”

SOT, Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson (Russian): “You saw that Mr. Biden needed certain background materials, he was handed these materials, or rather, you did not see that. In this case, President Putin, is in constant contact with all of his aides, with the ministers that he needs on certain issues. He does not need to promptly request some materials, he has a very good knowledge of the issue.”

SOT, Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson (Russian): “The president clearly said, referring to the president of the United States, that you are talking about our troops that are stationed on Russian territory. That are not threatening anybody. But you are talking from thousands of kilometres away from our territory. What is the meaning of what you are saying? That we are talking about our own territory, about the territory of the Russian Federation. And we are talking about Europe, which is our common home. The Americans are on the other side of the ocean, that’s what the president meant. And of course, all this fomenting of informational tension and so on is simply done to further such demonisation of Russia and positioning Russia as some sort of potential aggressor.”

SOT, Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson (Russian): “There is no need to be deceived, the presidents naturally reveal to each other the trappings of communication, good communication, but in terms of themes, in terms of the tone of discussion on specific issues – it is a tone that is extremely specific, tolerating no variation, whether from President Putin or from President Biden.”

SOT, Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson (Russian): ” Agreement to appoint trusted representatives as soon as possible to continue substantive discussions on the confrontational situation that has now arisen in Europe around Ukraine.”

SOT, Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson (Russian): “The presidents have agreed that after these trusted representatives have worked, they will have to have another meeting, maybe using the type of video format that the two presidents like. And a face-to-face meeting is a thing, a thing of the future, it’s too early to talk about it, it’s too early.”

SOT, Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson (Russian): “The American colleagues immediately after the conversation ended, of course, started telling each other horror stories, about how Biden was scaring Putin and so on. This is not true. The conversation was mutually respectful. You cannot talk to Putin any other way, he would not have allowed it. Yes, indeed Biden was saying that if there is this ephemeral invasion in Ukraine, apparently Americans themselves have already believed that this is not a gaffe, but the real truth. Here, then Russia will be financially isolated and so on and so forth.”

SOT, Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson (Russian): “It is impossible to impose any restrictions against Russia and not to experience suffering yourself. Everyone in the world understands this.”

SOT, Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson (Russian): “Of course, there were no particular reasons for joy. The president is fulfilling his functions as the head of state, the situation is very serious and requires constant attention from the head of state. Well, that is what the presiden
