Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov called the attempts of the trial in Badhoevedorp to blame Russia in the MH17 crash downing “completely unacceptable”, speaking in an exclusive interview to RT in Moscow, Wednesday.

“We see attempts to create the impression that this is not a criminal case at all, but a state problem. Because allegedly Russia led these people. This is completely unacceptable and [we see] attempts with unsuitable means. This is essentially a criminal process,” he said.

The Russian Foreign Minister also claimed there were a “huge number of inconsistencies and non-observance of the rules of an impartial trial” during the judicial proceedings.

“Almost all witnesses are classified. Including the one you mentioned and who could shed light on the facts that were still ignored by the investigation. Also, the fact that the request of the lawyer of the accused, the defendants were rejected, without any explanation, this also says a lot,” Lavrov explained.

Earlier on Tuesday, the court at the Schiphol Judicial Complex in Badhoevedorp stated that three Russians and a Ukrainian were responsible for the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17.

On Wednesday prosecutors asked for life sentences for suspects.

The trial that started in March 2020 following years of investigations, took place against the background of emerging border tensions between Russia and Ukraine over the allegations of Moscow placing troops at the joint border.

SOT, Sergei Lavrov, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs (Russian): “When the decision is announced, we will certainly express our opinion on this matter. But now we are closely following the process. First of all, because we are talking about Russian citizens who are defendants at this stage. We see attempts to create the impression that this is not a criminal case at all, but a state problem. Because allegedly Russia led these people. This is completely unacceptable and [we see] attempts with unsuitable means. This is essentially a criminal process. And as such, we consider it.”

SOT, Sergei Lavrov, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs (Russian): “There are a huge number of inconsistencies, non-observance of the rules of an impartial trial, office work, questioning of witnesses. Almost all witnesses are classified. Including the one you mentioned and who could shed light on the facts that were still ignored by the investigation. Also, the fact that the request of the lawyer of the accused, the defendants were rejected, without any explanation, also says a lot. Yes, they ignored Almaz-Antey’s field experiment, which proves that their statements about the specific type of missile used are not supported by facts. The fact that our [Russian] Ministry of Defense provided documents confirming that the missile in question was produced, as I remember, in 1986, and delivered to one of the military units in Ukraine, and remained safely there until it was used. This is all being ignored.”

SOT, Sergei Lavrov, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs (Russian): “Nobody is asking Ukraine to disclose data from its radars. The court was satisfied with Kiev’s explanations that at that moment the radars were not working. At this moment only. Nobody asks Ukraine to give negotiations, recording of dispatchers’ conversations with MH17. The woman who was on the phone in the control room disappeared somewhere. There are a lot of questions. Also, no one asks the US side to show the data from the satellites, which, as they said, irrefutably prove the correctness of the investigation. The investigation simply recorded that the US side possesses such satellite images, and this statement is quite enough for the investigation.”
