New Zealand’s Royal Air Force aircraft took off from their Auckland base on Monday, following orders from Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to support the initial assessment of Tonga’s impact caused by the volcanic eruptions and tsunami.

Ardern has assured that supplies are ready to go, regardless of the situation at Tonga’s main airport.
The help comes as the government waits to learn the extent of the damage caused by the volcano’s giant eruption on Saturday afternoon, which caused tsunami waves that swept away homes along the coast forcing locals to higher ground.
