Hundreds of Central American migrants were seen walking northwards through the state of Veracruz, near Campo Nuevo, on Thursday as Mexican and US leaders met in Washington to discuss the ongoing situation.

Some of the group were transported by trucks but that majority walked along the roadside. Mexican law enforcement can be seen stationed at points along the route.

Roberto Gonzalez, a Veracruz migration official, commented on one group, that “we have enough trucks to transport them to the different stations so that they can do their documents.”

The migrants are aiming to reach US soil.

SOT, Roberto Gonzalez, Veracruz migration official (Spanish): “We have enough trucks to transport them to the different stations so that they can do their documents. Veracruz is not an option for tomorrow because it has to be done with those we sent today and there is no reason that it is delaying them, we sent them to Puebla, Michoacan, I don’t know where else to go.”

SOT, Teodoro Hernandez, Honduran national (Spanish): “I have my green card, they told me that I can perfectly travel by bus if I carry my card but I do not have confidence in getting on the bus and that they don’t stop me, break my card and deport me to my country.”
