Martina Hingis set up a US Open semi-final against Venus Williams with what turned out to be a hard-fought win over two-time champion Monica Seles.
Top seed Hingis stormed through the first set in just 14 minutes for the loss of a mere six points – and she looked poised for one of the quickest ever victories in a clash between two top players.
But the second set was a different story as sixth seed Seles, who had struggled to find any consistency early on, started to fire off winners from the back of the court.
With the partisan crowd behind Seles she battled back from a break down to leave the second set nicely balanced at 5-5.
But 19-year-old Hingis showed why she is world number one by claiming the next two games to win the match 6-0 7-5.
