First responders were seen clearing debris after a landslide triggered by heavy rains left at least 14 people dead, 35 injured and one missing near the city of Pereira on Tuesday.
The deadly landslide hit the La Esneda neighbourhood and buried four houses. 52 homes were reportedly evacuated in the area where the Otun River overflowed its course.
La Esneda neighbourhood has been included in a category of non-mitigable risk since 1989.
This is not the first time this extreme phenomenon has hit the area. In October 1976, a landslide in Risaralda caused the death of 71 people.
