Brazilian authorities reported the third case of the Omicron variant of the new coronavirus in Sao Paulo on Wednesday.
The third person infected with Omicron in Brazil is a 29-year-old man who arrived from Ethiopia on Saturday.
According to local health authorities, the traveller – who took two doses of the Pfizer vaccine against COVID-19 – is so far, asymptomatic and is in home isolation near Guarulhos airport.
The announcement of the third case came after Sao Paulo confirmed on Tuesday the first two cases of the Omicron variant in Brazil and Latin America – a 41-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman who arrived from South Africa and are being treated at the Albert Einstein Hospital, seen in the footage.
SOT, Mozart, Pedestrian (Portuguese): “About this variant, it is very concerning. We all have to be very careful, even people are vaccinated it’s a new wave, so always to be worried, so faith in God and carry on.”
SOT, Maria do Socorro, Pedestrian (Portuguese): “This new wave is leaving people very worried, we already know what to do and how to do it, but the fear of death still is present in our lives.”
SOT, Guilherme, Pedestrian (Portuguese): “It brings uncertainty to Brazilians, right? But we saw the rate of vaccinations increasing in the country, it brings concern, but either way, in face of that news, the variant brings new fears, leaving us uncertain for the future also with events like Carnival, Christmas, New Year’s. We are hopeful, since vaccination here in Brazil is increasing a lot, it will help to get fewer people infected.”
